Crappie Masters Lake Fork One Pole-Artificial Only Tournament Results

Missourians Snider And Albin Win Lake Fork Texas Tournament

Missourians Marty Snider & Jackie Albin came to Texas and won the 2014 Lake Fork Ultimate Challenge. The Ultimate Challenge is a one pole-artificial bait only tournament that had 11 states represented. Sponsored by Bass Pro Shops, Tracker Marine, Humminbird, Minn Kota, Mercury Motors and the City of Emory Tourism, the Lake Fork fishing took a turn for the better on competition day after pre-fishing was reported as tough.Teams reported the bite as being few and far in between as they dealt with high wind conditions during the week. Those that stayed in the competition were rewarded with some of the best fishing of their lives as warmer night time temperatures helped turn the bite on for competition day. Long time tournament anglers Whitey Outlaw and Mike Parrott stated, “We have been tournament fishing for 30 plus years. This was one of the best fishing days of our life.” Many teams reported catching 100-150 fish during the day having to release a lot of 1 ¾ lb fish.Sponsored by Crappie Town & Bobby Garland Crappie Baits, Snider and Albin weighed in 15.83 lbs. for the win. The team was jigging in 3-5 foot waters fishing off the bottom. They stated, “We had success early in the week, then fishing was very slow. We stayed on a particular line of trees all day. We would go back to those trees and they had repopulated with fish. We had to fish slow and hold the bait still for 30 secs to 1.5 min. then the fish would just hammer it. We think the warmer overnight temperatures turned the bite on. We also used niblets and Bobby Garland MoGlo Slab Jam scent that seemed to make a difference.” The team fished with Bobby Garland Baby Shad jigs on Crappie Max poles, using a Xpress boat with a Mercury motor, Humminbird electronics and Minn Kota trolling motor. They earned $3,200.00 for their efforts.

Second place went to the Texas team of Rob Marshall and Lane Carlisle who are sponsored by Holiday Ford of Whitesboro, TX. The Ford team weighed in 15.63 lbs. They fished with Rocky Top jigs on Pro Angler rods in 2-5 foot waters, catching fish on the bottom. They took the top big fish honors with a 3.07 lb. slab. They fished in an Alumacraft boat with a Mercury Motor, Humminbird electronics and a Minn Kota trolling motor.

Sean Gossett and Brad Williams (pictured lower right) placed third with a weight of 15.47 lbs. The team fished in 3-6 foot waters, catching fish half way down. Sponsored by Lake Fork Tackle, they caught their fish on Lake Fork Baby Shard Sickle Tail jigs using Pro Angler rods. They were fishing in a Skeeter boat with a Yamaha motor, Humminbird electronics and a Minn Kota trolling motor.

Top male female team was Roger and Pamela Putman with 15.19 lbs. They had second big fish having weighed in a 2.82 lb. crappie. The male-female team placed 10th overall.

Tournament weights have been very good over the last couple of tournaments but next on the tournament is big fish Grenada Lake & the Mississippi State Championship. The tournament date is March 21 & 22, 2014 in Grenada, MS. The tournament is also a national qualifier and open to the public with membership.
