The Ross Barnett has finally settled into its summer time pattern. My favorite way to catch crappie in the summer is to pull crank baits. The River Channel that runs through the lake has stumps sitting on the top side. They always have crappie stuck to them. I like to start off the day by using my Lowrance HDS 12 DI,to see which stumps are holding the most fish. My best colors this summer are white and chartreuse REBEL Crappie CrankR’ crankbaits. The next method that is producing slabs is to vertical jig standing timber in the old lake beds. I like to put a Bobby Garland Slab Tickler on the line. I use a 1/8 Mo’Glo Orange Head with either a Outlaw or Monkey Milk Bobby Garland Baby Shad. The fish are looking for shade so pay attention to any trees with limbs on them.
