Crappie USA Tournament Results For The 2-Day $10,000.00 Super Event on Lake Murray At Newberry, SC

1st Semi Pro Marchell - Frick

“1st Place Semi-Pro Team of Leonard Frick of Leesville, South Carolina and Lewis Marchell of Cayce , South Carolina with a weight of 25.83 pound for the two day event.”

This past Friday and Saturday April 11th & 12th Crappie USA held a 2-day $10,000.00 Super Event on Lake Murray at Newberry, South Carolina. This event brought out 80 of the top anglers from 8 different states to compete for not only the $10,000.00 in cash and prizes, but a chance to advance to the prestigious Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. This year’s classic will be held October 16th-18th on Lake Cumberland at Somerset, Kentucky.

Taking first place was the team of Leonard Frick of Leesville, South Carolina and Lewis Marchell of Cayce , South Carolina with a weight of 25.83 pound for the two day event and earning $3,000.00. The team fished areas around the dam using feather jigs green/yellow shooting docks in 10 feet of water.

2nd Semi Pro Frick - Soper

“2nd Place Semi-Pro Team of Todd Frick and Brad Soper with a weight of 23.99lbs”

Second place went to the team of Todd Frick of Leesville, South Carolina and Brad Soper of Batesburg, South Carolina with a weight of 23.99 pound and earning them $2,000.00. The team shot docks in the area around the dam using chartreuse feather jigs in 10 feet of water and caught a total of 9 fish per day.

In third place was the team of Kenny Eargle of Leesville, South Carolina and Sonny Bundrick of Little Mountain, South Carolina. with a weight of 23.73 pound and earning the team $700.00. The team cast jigs around docks and on banks with shade using a float above the jig and casting into shallow water using a variety of colors and some live bait to catch 21 fish.

Kent Driscoll of Cummings, Georgia and Rod Wall of Ninety Six, South Carolina took fourth place in the Semi-Pro Division with a weight of 20.94 pound and earning $300.00. The team used B’n’M dock shooter rods and hand tied jigs along with some slip floats and minnow in the upper end of the lake with over 25 fish for the 2 days.

Fifth place went to the team of Randy Pope and Steve Dietz of Hickory North Carolina with a weight of 20.62 pound.

Amateur Division Results

1st Amateur Cooper - Phillips

“1st Place amateur team of George Cooper of Prosperity, South Carolina and Gary Phillips of Leesville, South Carolina”

First place in the amateur division went to the team of George Cooper of Prosperity, South Carolina and Gary Phillips of Leesville, South Carolina with a weight of 23.57 pound and earning $1,500.00 plus second big fish earning $125.00. The team fished the upper end of the lake in 10 to 20 feet of water using minnows under floats around boat docks to make their catch. The team caught over 60 fish in 2 days including the 2nd big fish at 2.14 pound.

Second place went to the team of Ray Koon Jr. of Chapin, South Carolina and Derek Frick of Little Mountain, South Carolina with a weight of 20.02 pound and earning $800.00. The team fished the upper area of the lake pulling jigs of various colors in shallow water (4 foot) early and moved to deeper (15 foot) water later in the day when the sun got high. The team caught over 45 fish for 2 days.

Taking third place was the team of Jonathan Brunson and Thomas Brunson of Saluda, South Carolina with a weight of 19.63 pound and earning $500.00. The team fished the upper end of the lake in 10 to 15 foot of water long line trolling bubblegum color and black chartreuse jigs with a total of over 30 fish caught for the weekend.

Taking forth pace with 19.08 pounds was the team of Brad Smith of Prosperity, South Carolina and Johnny Parker of Lexington, South Carolina earning $300.00. The team fished the fork in the rivers area using Bobby Garland Baby Shad fishing vertically 4 feet deep in 15 foot of water. The team caught 25 fish for the weekend.

Taking fifth place went to Ken Vinson of West Union, South Carolina and Avery Hollman of Easley, South Carolina with a weight of 17.56 pound.

Kids Rodeo

“Crappie USA Kids Rodeo”

In conjunction with the tournament Crappie USA held their Kids Rodeo on Saturday morning with several local children attending the event. All the participants signed up for a chance to win one of 6-$1,000.00 scholarships to be drawn for at the Cabela’s Crappie USA Classic. Crappie USA and our anglers have contributed nearly $322,000.00 to the “Crappie Kids” Scholarships since 1997. We are very proud to be a part of the education process for the youngsters who participate in our tournaments as adult/youth teams and those who fish in the Crappie USA “Kids Fishing Rodeos”.
