As most Crappie Anglers already know it’s hard to catch a personal best one year, then turn around and beat your personal best the next.

"Amber Jackson's personal best Crappie caught in 2014, 1 pound and 5 ounces."

But, that is exactly what 22 year old Amber Jackson did this year.

In the Spring of 2014 Amber caught her personal best Crappie and was extremely excited and proud. But what happened on April 24th, 2015 would top her personal best by far.

Amber was fishing a Northern Missouri Lake with her friend Tim Smith. What lake? We promised not to tell… The day was overcast with rain and very windy. Tim had anchored the boat in a cove in efforts to beat the wind and try to enjoy the day. Not to far away was another angler who had anchored in the cove with the same idea, avoiding the wind. What happened next most Crappie Anglers can only dream of.

Amber, fishing with a minnow 2 feet deep, saw her bobber go down and she set the hook! She realized she had a bigger fish on and thought to herself, “this must be a catfish.” The fish came to the surface and with mouth wide open she quickly reeled it to the boat. Almost within reach she realized this was not a catfish but a very large Crappie! Amber began to scream, “GET THE NET, GET THE NET!” Tim scrambled in the boat to grab the net, but suddenly this Monster fish realized it was hooked and took off. Putting up a fight that lasted 10 minutes, Amber was finally able to wear out this Crappie and Tim landed it with the net. Once in the boat, Amber amazed at what she had just caught, had to sit down in the boat but still screaming. Tim, looked up at Amber and said, “It was not hooked very good. The hook came right out of it’s mouth!”

So what did Amber actually have? A 3 pound 15 oz. Slab that was 19 inches long and had a 16 inch girth! This Crappie beat her personal best by a whopping 2 pounds and 10 ounces!

Amber says she credits her Dad, Joe Jackson, who had to work that day, with taking and teaching her how to fish. Amber also says she could not have done it without Tim. Tim jokingly says to Amber, he should receive the credit for being a great guide and putting her on the fish.

Amber says she is having a replica made and has the perfect spot in her bedroom to hang her personal best Crappie of a lifetime!
